YOU ARE A STEP AWAY FROM UNIVERSITY

Cambridge Assessment  International Education prepares students for life, helping them develop an informed curiosity and a lasting passion for learning.

Cambridge International qualifications are recognised by the world’s best universities and employers, giving students a wide range of options in their education and career.

Lockerbie College Barbados, is a school with heart. In the course of my work I am privileged to visit many schools in many countries, each with its own particular context, challenges and character. However, Lockerbie College is the only school I have visited that had me holding a chicken for a photo shortly after arriving.

I walked around the school with Julia Hanschell telling me the stories of all the children we met. She knows each student personally. I watched an amazing A level Geography class with a multi-media approach where the teacher effortlessly switched media in response to the needs of the lesson. Students were challenged with questions that made them think deeply and relate prior knowledge. I know that the Geography degree I took in the UK was never at such a high standard.

Everywhere I saw students and staff involved in a learning journey together. All engaged with the work in hand. The Cambridge Pathway is taught in a shared curriculum with the national system. And students are given an impressive array of other options for study depending on their individual needs. I am proud that Cambridge International has provided a framework and flexibility to ensure the highest international standards and allow Lockerbie College to express its own unique character.

Regional Director, Cambridge Assessment International Education

“The study found that Cambridge International A Level graduates attending the University of Florida had an average end-of-freshman year GPA of 3.46 whereas students coming from other acceleration mechanisms such as Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) had an average GPA of 3.12 and 3.10 respectively.”

BENEFITS OF CAMBRIDGE

  • AICE courses and examinations are equivalent to first year college and university courses (See Course Equivalents for more detail).
  • Students who pass seven examinations are awarded the AICE Diploma directly by the University of Cambridge.  Students who do not earn the AICE Diploma are given credit for those examinations passed.
  • AICE and Pre-AICE teachers at Anclote High School are trained directly by Cambridge.  Each of the courses strictly follows a course syllabus that is designed by Cambridge professors.
  • AICE students are eligible for the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship. All AICE Academy students are required to fulfill the 100-hour community service project, which is required for the Florida Academic Scholars Award.
  • The AICE program of study at AHS offers students one of the most demanding and rigorous college preparatory programs in the world. The State of Florida Universities and the Bright Futures Scholarship Program each award one extra quality point for students who successfully complete an AICE course with a “C” or better.
